Tom Reese is a composer who plays the flute.  Or is he a flutist that is also a composer?  Called "multi-lingual," his versatility knows no bounds.  His compositions are hits on international radio stations, being commissioned and performed all over the world.  He leads composition and jazz improvisation workshops.  He debuted some of his award-winning jazz compositions from the Grammy-nominated jazz CD, "Blue Etude," in Nashville on Music Row.

     Global Wind Instruments:

In addition to the soprano flute, Tom plays the Irish pennywhistle, recorder, Chinese shakuhachi, bamboo flutes, Peruvian pan pipes, fife, antique ocarinas, and the Native American Lakota flute.  He demonstrates each of these instruments in an educational program called "Music Makes the World Go Round."

     Radio Interviews:

Tom's love of radio and fortunate meetings with radio-friendly people led to several interviews on WITF-FM (Harrisburg):  "Dancing Through My Mind" by Fritz Williams & "Desert Island Discs" with Ellen Hughes.

  • "Dancing Through My Mind," a lyric from Tom's composition, "Key to Your Heart," was chosen by Fritz Williams as the title of his interview with Tom.  This hour-long program aired in July 2001 & highlights a colorful spectrum of Tom's musical projects.  Fritz calls Tom a "multi-lingual composer," referring to the diverse nature of Tom's work.  Incorporating elements of jazz, Celtic/traditional folk, rock and classical music in his works, Tom hands us a refreshing, intimate "aural peek" into the possibilities of music.
  • On "Desert Island Discs," Ellen Hughes inquires what music would the interviewee take with them if, circumstances allowing, they were trapped on a desert island with only 10 of their favorite albums.

     Educational Programs

Tom is the originator of the Ocarina Building Workshop & My Ocarina, a make-at-home ocarina building kit.  Tom has helped children design & build their own playable ocarinas since 1987.
